Shewcraft led the Men's Soccer program for 29 seasons as head
coach, while serving as an assistant during his first year in North
Adams. He led the program to their first and only final four
appearance in 1978, his first year at the helm. Shewcraft
amassed a 292-184-46 career record that included 16 postseason
appearances. He led his troops to five MASCAC championships
during his career.
The 1978 team was inducted into the hall of fame in 2003 for
their final four appearance, still the only one in school history
in any sport. Back in 2007, MCLA honored his legacy by naming
the state of the art turf field after Shewcraft, an event that saw
over 100 people come back to campus in his honor. He also
served on various committees during his tenure as coach, including
the NCAA selection committee.
Shewcraft is still an active member of the MCLA faculty teaching
in the Biology department and serving as the Physical Education
chair. He is happily married to his wife Diane. They
raised two children, twins Ryan and Sarah, and enjoy being outdoors
and each other’s company.
