North Adams, MA- MCLA senior captain Oscar Castro has been voted second team All MASCAC the conference announced this morning. Castro's appearance on the all conference squad is his first in a Trailblazer uniform.
Mayele Malango of Salem State is the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Year and headlines the All-Conference Team as voted on by the coaches from around the league.
The freshman from Lowell, Mass. helped the Vikings to a perfect 7-0 mark during conference play and the top seed in the MASCAC Tournament. During the regular season, he led the conference in goals with 16 and totals points with 41. He also registered nine assists, 55 total shots and four game-winning goals. He ended the season with the third most goals in Salem State history by a freshman and second most points by a freshman, fourth overall in school history.
In his first year at the helm for the Vikings, Matt Correia was named the 2017 Champion's Choice Men's Soccer Coach of the Year after leading the team to a perfect conference record and the top seed in the tournament.
Castro appeared in all 16 games for the Trailblazers and was second on the team in shots with 29. He led the Trailblazers with 4 goals on the season. Castro netted a key goal in a MASCAC win over Mass. Maritime back in September. He added markers against Green Mountain, Western Connecticut, and Cobleskill.
Joining Malango on the 2017 MASCAC First Team is Framingham State's Isaac De Souza and Ken Stahovish, Massachusetts Maritime's Adam Crawford and Mick Rouette, Salem State's Nahuel Aligbay, Chris Jiminez, Dominique Panmo, Xavier Polanco and Grace Dos Santos and Worcester State's Matthew Dent.
Landing on the 2017 MASCAC Second Team is Bridgewater State's Filipe Gomes, Kane Moran and Nate Morgado, Framingham State's Eric Amoateng and Johance Liverpool, MCLA's Oscar Castro. Massachusetts Maritime's Ben Paine and Worcester State's Ryan Almeida, Bryan Brasil, Momodou Kabareh and Etjon Rapi.
