MCLA to add Men's Tennis as Varsity Sport this Spring
The MCLA Athletics Department has announced that they will be adding its 12th varsity program this spring with the addition of Men's Tennis. The program will be starting immediately with practices beginning this fall.
North Adams, Mass. – Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) has announced that the College will add its twelfth varsity sport, men's tennis, beginning in the spring of 2012.
"We are extremely excited about the latest development to add the men's tennis program," Nichols said. "There are high levels of interest already on campus and with the outstanding facilities we expect to have a very competitive team in the near future."
The Presidents Athletic Advisory Committee (PAAC) and Nichols explored many different program options and after consideration, MCLA President Mary K. Grant accepted the recommendation to add men's tennis as its twelfth sport. According to Grant, "I appreciate the level of engagement and excellent process from PAAC and look forward to continued success from our student-athletes."
"Our goal is to continue to support our current programs and look to future expansion enhancements to the athletic programs," Nichols said. "In the future, I would like to see a number of additional programs for the College. Our student-athletes have a tremendous impact on the college and North Adams community and additional programs will continue to strengthen MCLA."
MCLA will begin the search for a men's tennis coach immediately. The men's tennis program will begin this fall with a non-traditional season. MCLA is a member of the NCAA, ECAC and Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).
