NAC East Men's Tennis All-Conference Announced
Colby-Sawyer sophomore Nathan Taschereau was chosen as the North Atlantic Conference East Division Men's Tennis Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches. Taschereau highlights the 2013 All-Conference selections as announced Friday.
Taschereau was a perfect 6-0 at first singles and doubles in conference play, leading the Chargers to their second-straight unbeaten NAC East Division season.
Connor Braden had just one loss at number one singles in conference action for Green Mountain College in earning Rookie of the Year honors. Braden and teammate Chris Donovan joins a trio from Colby-Sawyer on the All-Conference Singles First Team in Taschereau, Clay Allen, and Justin Pinard. Thomas College's Eric Morin rounded out the team.
Taschereau and doubles partner Reeve Fidler landed on the All-Conference Doubles First Team, as did Morin and partner Tyler Small, and Braden with partner Nate Berner-Tobin.
Colby-Sawyer's Barry Schoonmaker was honored with the NAC East Division Coach of the Year award by his peers, leading the Chargers to their second-straight division championship and a berth in the NAC Final slated for Sunday, May 5.
MCLA was honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award.
NAC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches. Additional players honored are due to ties in the voting. Beginning with the 2010 season, the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has partnered with the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) in the sports of men's and women's tennis. The NEAC will compete as associate members of the NAC men's tennis, while the NAC will compete as associate members of the NEAC in women's tennis. Members from each conference will be divided into an East and West Division for each sport, with each division holding a championship and the two divisional champions then facing off to determine the conference champion. The conference winner for each sport will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
