MCLA's Lucy Tremblay
It all started junior year of high school, when now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) senior Lucy Tremblay knew she wanted to get serious about basketball and play at the next level.
Tremblay, a three-sport athlete from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, New York, grew up playing basketball in the driveway with her father, but claims soccer was her number one sport. It wasn't until the sixth grade that she joined her first real basketball team. "I played mainly because all of my school friends played," said Tremblay. "It was another way to hang out with them."
Extra hours in the gym working on her shot has now paid off, "In high school, I was a point guard so I wasn't a huge scorer, now in college I'm a shooting guard," said Tremblay. Now Tremblay is an offensive and defensive threat to opponents.
Tremblay's freshman year was full of accomplishments; the Trailblazers won the MASCAC tournament and earned a bid to the NCAA tournament against number one ranked Amherst College. Her freshman year came to an end when they lost to Amherst but not before she was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Year. "Winning MASCAC's my freshman year was honestly an indescribable feeling," stated Tremblay. "It set the bar for what my college basketball career could be like."
Sophomore and junior year seemed to be very similar for Tremblay. The Trailblazers fell in Tremblay's sophomore year to Bridgewater in the semi-finals and junior year they again lost to Bridgewater in the finals. Being a game away from winning MASCAC's last year has been a huge motivator. "It makes me want to push that much harder each day," said Tremblay.
With Tremblay's senior year underway she has one goal for her fellow Trailblazers to win MASCAC's. The Trailblazers currently sit at 2-1 after a weekend loss to cross-town foe Williams College and will head on the road this coming weekend when they travel to the Salisbury Tournament in Maryland. Tremblay has started in all three of the Trailblazers games and is averaging 9.3 points per game, 4 rebounds per game and 3.7 assists per game. Tremblay is on the quest to reach the 1,000th point milestone and sits at 926 career points.
Throughout Tremblay's three years at MCLA and as she completes her fourth season with the Trailblazers there has been one person on the ride with her the whole time; assistant coach Chelsey Burke. Coach Burke was a junior when Tremblay was a freshman. "Chelsey was honestly one of the best teammates I have ever had. She was a great captain and has taught me so many things about basketball and life in general," said Tremblay about their friendship. "I could not be happier to have her on the sidelines with me as an assistant coach."
Come watch Lucy Tremblay on her quest to 1,000 and her Trailblazer team on their journey to win MASCAC's when they return home on December 7th verse St. Joseph College of Connecticut. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
