Trailblazer women's basketball falls to Elms 63-57

North Adams, MA- Elms' Angelica Peguero-Flores scored 27 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead the Blazer women's basketball team past the MCLA Trailblazers 63-57 in non league action inside the Amsler Campus Center.  The Blazers improve to 2-5 on the season.  MCLA dips to 2-5 as well.

Elms led 17-13 after one quarter of play.  The visitors clamped down on MCLA in the second quarter as they outscored the Trailblazers 18-9 to take a 35-22 lead into halftime.  Elms' Peguero-Flores was hot during the opening two quarters of play.  She led all scorers with 15 first half points on 7-10 shooting.  Elms turned over MCLA 12 times in the half and held them to just 28% shooting.

The Blazers seemed to put the game away in the third quarter as they built a 17 point lead at 47-30, but MCLA would rally a bit in the fourth quarter.  With Elms leading 51-39 after a pair of FT's, MCLA would make a run.

Kylah Langston buried a three and after a Blazer made free throw, Brooke DiGennaro would convert another three slicing the lead to just 52-46, still with 5:28 to play.  Elms' Lashaunte White would answer with a jumper to stop the spurt and when Peguero-Flores converted off a rebound, Elms led 56-47 with just four minutes remaining.

MCLA wouldn't get any closer than the final margin the rest of the way.

Peguero-Flores was 11-16 from the floor for her 28 point effort.  She also secured seven offensive rebounds in the win.  Regina LeBlanc chipped in with 12 points for Elms.  She had a great floor game adding 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.   Elms overcame 21 turnovers to grab the win.

For MCLA, they were led by Langston's 16 point night, but she was just 7-18 shooting.  Hannah Mazzeo added 10 points and 10 rebounds for MCLA.  Shannon Carney earned her first start and added 9 points for the Trailblazers.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Saturday when they head to Smith College.
