MCLA Holds Off Castleton for Victory

The MCLA Trailblazers struggled with a pesky Castleton team Wednesday night to move to 2-4 on the season and 2-0 versus Castleton State this year. The Trailblazers won 3-0, but had their hands full in both games two and three before winning 28-26 and 26-24.

MCLA won game one 25-17 behind the strong play of seniors Hayley Gundersen and Kayla Bromback. Bromback finished the evening with five kills and five aces.

MCLA built a sizable leade in game two before Castleton came storming back to tie the match. Ruth Tomlinson and Paige Lacey fueled the comeback for the Spartans, but MCLA made the plays when they needed to and pulled out a 28-26 victory.

Game three was just about a mirror image of game two as MCLA jumped out early gaining a 7-2 advantage. Castleton hung around long enough to take a one point advantage at 26-25, but MCLA rallied for the next three points and the match victory.

Kelley Bryant had seven kills to lead MCLA and Brittany Kish had twelve assists. Allie Chang led the way defensively with eleven digs. Kish had seven.

Alyssa Sherman led Castleton with four kills.

MCLA will travel to Rochester this weekend and will take on Skidmore Friday night at 8:00pm. The Trailblazers will then play Rochester Saturday at 11:00am and finish the trip with another neutral site match versus Medaille at 1:00pm.
