The Trailblazers took five games tonight to do something they did in just three last week, beat the Cobleskill St. volleyball team. MCLA breezed through their match last weekend played at Hamilton College, but the Tigers gave MCLA all they could handle on senior night.
Cobleskill took two of the first three games, winning games one and three by identical scores of 25-23. MCLA sandwiched a 25-18 victory in game two.
MCLA honored three seniors on the night in Jillian Gregoriou, Hayley Gundersen and Kayla Bromback. Gundersen played sparingly in her MCLA home finale due to a foot injury, Gundersen toughed it out, but was only able to serve for the team tonight. Gundersen has been a jack of all trades for the Trailblazers in her four years at MCLA often finishing tops on the team in assists, digs and service aces.
Gundersen as she had done throughout her career stepped up and had two big service aces late to help even the match at two as MCLA won game four 25-19.
Game five started out badly for MCLA as they got down 4-1 before rallying for an 8-7 lead. However, Cobleskill would go a 6-4 run to reach game point at 14-11. However following a Cobleskill time out, MCLA's career leader in kills Bromback took over. Bromback had three kills down the stretch as MCLA reeled off five straight points to take the game 16-14 and the match 3-2.
Bromback finished with eleven kills and Brittany Kish had thirty-one assists. Kelley Bryant had fifteen digs. Gregoriou contributed two kills on her senior night.
The Trailblazers are now 12-20 and wrap up the season on Saturday at SUNY-IT at 2:00pm.
