MCLA Athletics Week in Review (Jan. 26-31)

Wehner Earns MASCAC Player of the Week
MCLA sophomore Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) was named the MASCAC Women's Basketball player of the week on Sunday. Wehner averaged 15 points and 15.5 rebounds for the week. It is her first Player of the Week award this season.
On Tuesday, the Trailblazers fell to Bridgewater State by a score of 75-70. Wehner had a huge night in defeat as she tallied 20 points and 19 boards. She was 8-9 from the floor in the contest. She continued her solid play on Saturday as she finished with 10 points and 12 boards in a setback at Worcester State.
For the season, Wehner leads MCLA in scoring at over 13ppg.?? She has been strong off the glass all season long for the Trailblazers averaging 10 rebounds per contest.
MCLA Men's Basketball-
The MCLA Men's Basketball team, lead by Senior Joey Paoletti's (Orange, MA) career high 10 rebounds and 29 minutes, were able to knock off Worcester State on the road, earning a split of the season series 59-53.
With 18 lead changes throughout the game, the Trailblazers were able to put the game away through great play from Senior Pat Ryan (Woodstock, NY). Ryan's converted drop step for two and a free throw gave the Trailblazers the lead down the stretch. MCLA was lead in scoring and rebounding by Junior Jon Greenberg (Antwerp, Belgium) who had 17 points and 17 rebounds.
Last Tuesday (1/26), the Trailblazers hosted first place Bridgewater State College and battled back from a 17 point deficit to tie the game late, but it was not enough as Bridgewater survived a last second three-point attempt from Senior Mike Perreault (Whitinsville, MA). His jumper felt short giving Bridgewater the 86-83 win to help them remain undefeated in conference.
Sophomore Chris Harris (Dorchester, MA) and Greenberg lead the Trailblazers in scoring and rebounding. Harris finished with a team high 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Greenberg finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds.
The Men's Basketball team went 1-1 in conference play last week, bringing their conference record to 2-5, and 8-11 overall. They currently find themselves tied for fifth place in the MASCAC.
MCLA Women's Basketball-
On Saturday (1/30), the Trailblazers traveled to Worcester State and only trailed 28-25 at the half, but strong play by Worcester State in the second half was the difference in a 74-57 victory for the Lancers. The Trailblazers were lead by Freshman Lucy Tremblay (East Greenbush, NY) with 15 points. Junior Molly Broda (Southampton, MA), Junior Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY), and Senior Jade Prickett (Westhampton, MA) each finished in double-digits as well.
Last Tuesday (1/26), the Trailblazers lost a hard-fought battle to first place Bridgewater State 75-70. Lead by Wehner's 20 points and 19 rebounds, the Trailblazers were able to battle back from an eight point deficit, but were unable to get over the hump and grab the lead. Broda finished with 12 points and five assists, while Prickett finished with 10 points and Junior Hilary Perks (Saugerties, NY) added eight.
The Women's team finds themselves at 2-5 in the conference, and 12-6 overall. The Women's team will play host to Salem State on Tuesday at 5:30 and will travel to Westfield on Saturday for a 5:30 start.
