After the final out of the 2008 season was recorded, the MCLA Baseball team vowed to work harder than ever before.
Bateman, though, reported to camp intending to win a spot on the Opening Day roster. The 28-year-old non-roster invitee was not as effective in his three Cactus League innings before Sunday's quality outing, allowing five earned runs on four hits and two walks.
Head Coach Jeff Puleri has announced three captains for the upcoming 2009 season. The captains for the team will be Senior OF Pat Negrini (West Stockbridge, MA), Senior OF Cory Burtman (Norwood, MA), and Junior Catcher Ken Recore (Averill Park, NY).
MCLA, which won the first game 15-7, moved to 19-13 on the season. Elms College, meanwhile, moved to 16-16.
More than 90 MCLA baseball and softball players, their parents and alumni from the state of Florida gathered together yesterday in Florida.
The MCLA Baseball team returned from Winter Haven, FL sporting a 6-4 record after the week long trip. MCLA traveled to the former spring training home of the Cleveland Indians for the ten game trip.
With assistance from the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Choices Program, the team held a fundraiser in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The event was a rousing success as the day yielded just over $2300 in donations.
“County baseball has always been strong and very competitive. It reflects on the roster, you’ve got hard working kids who losing is not an option to. They’re tough kids.” says Jeff Puleri, the coach of the baseball team.

Baseball earns 3rd seed and softball earns 4th seed
The MCLA Baseball season is right around the corner. The MCLA nine will begin play in the Russ/Matt invitational in Winter Haven, Fl. The season opener is set for March 12 against UMass-Boston. The home opener is scheduled for March 24th against Southern Vermont.
Coming off a successful 6-4 trip to Florida, the MCLA baseball team captured their first win back north defeating Southern Vermont College 13-9.
