MCLA Splits with Framingham

SOFTBALL SPLITS TWO WITH MCLA
Framingham, MA — Junior pitcher Katelyn Pachecho (Acuhnet,
MA) scattered five hits over seven innings as the Framingham State
College softball team picked up their first win of the season today
3-0 in game one of a Massachusetts State College Athletic
Conference (MASCAC) double header with the MCLA Trailblazers.
The Trailblazers picked up the win in game two 9-6 as senior
Rachel Desautels (Readsboro, VT) went 3-for-4 with
three doubles and five RBIs. With the split the Rams are now
1-1 in the MASCAC and 1-15 overall, while the Trailblazers are also
1-1 in conference and 2-10 overall.
In game one Pacheco had a strong outting to pick up her first win
of the season on the mound as she went seven innings allow no runs
and scattering five hits while striking out seven.
The Rams broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 5th inning as
senior first baseman Liz Ranton (Milton, MA) led off the inning
with a single, advanced to third on a double by senior Colleen
Clancy (Lynn, MA) and scored on shallow sacrifice fly to right off
the bat of freshman shortstop Christy Ulak (Rehoboth, MA).
That was all the Rams would need as Pacheco kept the Trailblazers
bats quiet, but the Rams would add two insurance runs on an MCLA
error and an RBI single from Ranton in the bottom of the sixth.
In game two, the Trailblazers bats came alive as they struck for
nine runs on twelve hits. MCLA scored four runs in the first
on and RBI single from sophomore infielder Katelyn
Ouelette (Norwood, MA) and a bases clearing three run
double off the bat of Desautels.
The Rams answered with two runs in the first to cut the
Trailblazers lead to 4-2. The Trailblazers responded with
three more runs in the third to put the game out of reach.
Desautels belted her second RBI double of the day and sophomore
infielder Jacklyn Candelet (Pittsfield, MA) drove
in two with an RBI single. In the 6th, MCLA added two more to pad a
9-6 lead when Desautels' double drove in Kalya
Koumjian (Watervliet, NY) nad later scored.
Freshman pitcher Hadley Ameen (North Adams, MA)
came on in relief in the second inning of game two and allowed four
runs, three earned on eight hits while striking out four to pick up
the win.
Desautels finished the day 5-for-7 at the plate with five RBIs and
three doubles, while Ouelette finished the day 4-for-7 with an RBI.
The Rams were led by Clancy who finished the day 5-for-8 with and
RBI and Ranton who added three hits and an RBI.
The Trailblazers host Bay Path on Wednesday at
3:30p.m.
