Softball Keeps on Rolling
For the second consecutive doubleheader the Trailblazers earned a pair of five inning victories. MCLA moved to 8-10 on the season and 2-2 in the MASCAC with wins today of 8-0 and 15-2.
For the second consecutive doubleheader the Trailblazers earned a pair of five inning victories. MCLA moved to 8-10 on the season and 2-2 in the MASCAC with wins today of 8-0 and 15-2. Mass. Maritime drops to 2-8 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. MCLA has outscored its opponents 53-2 in its last four contests.
In game one staff ace Hadley Ameen (North Adams, MA) pitched five innings and allowed just one hit and a walk while striking out seven in the complete game shutout.
The Trailblazers scored eight runs despite just two hits on the day. The Trailblazers took advantage of twelve walks and nine wild pitches by Buccaneer pitchers. Megan Boyer (Clarksburg, MA) was 1-1 with two walks and two RBI’s and Jaclyn Candelet (Pittsfield, MA) walked all four times she batted.
Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, MA) was 1-2 for at the plate for Mass. Maritime.
Ameen picked up the win and Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, MA) took the loss.
Game two MCLA scored fifteen runs and banged out eleven hits including a three-run homer by Kayla Koumjian (Watervliet, NY).
Maritime got to starter Sarah Greenwood (Northfield, MA) for a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead and it was 3-2 MCLA heading into the bottom of the second, but the Trailblazers scored six times in that frame to put the game out of reach.
Boyer was 2-3 with two more RBI’s in game two. Greenwood helped her own cause going 2-3 and scored three runs. Candelet was 2-2 with two more walks and scored four runs from the leadoff spot. Candelet reached base safely all eight times she came to plate on the afternoon.
Beaulieu was 2-3 with an RBI for the Buccaneers and Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, MA) was 1-3 with a run scored.
Greenwood picked up the victory and Holly McLaughlin (Belmont, MA) took the loss.
Mass. Maritime next plays two on Thursday at Umass-Boston starting at 3:30 PM. MCLA plays home Monday versus WPI starting at 3:30 PM.
