Trailblazers Lose in Season Finale

The Salem State Lady Vikings swept a pair of conference games against the MCLA Trailblazers. Salem State won 4-1 and 3-1. MCLA ends the season 11-25 overall and 3-11 in the MASCAC.
In game one Katelynn Fanning (East Boston, MA) won her team-high 17th game of the season with a six-hit complete game shutout in game one.
Fanning spread out six singles and reached 10 strikeouts to earn her sixth shutout this season.
Salem State (28-7-1, 10-3) plated all four runs in the second inning. Fanning scored the first run after reaching first on a base hit. Following a sacrifice and stolen base, the Lady Vikings led 1-0 when Fanning scored on a wild pitch. Katie Oram (Lynn, MA) and Sarah Brown (North Attlerboro, MA) each tripled in the inning to bring two more runs home. Taylor Orlando drove in the final run of the inning to make the score 4-0.
Brown finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's for the Lady Vikings.
Hadley Ameen (North Adams, MA) took the loss allowing four earned runs on seven hits in six innings pitched for MCLA (11-24, 3-10).
Sarah Greenwood (Northfield, MA) went 1-for-2 with two walks for the Trailblazers.
In the nightcap Jess Baird went 3-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the Salem State Lady Vikings past the MCLA Trailblazers 3-1 in game two of their scheduled doubleheader.
MCLA (11-25, 3-11) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second against starter Sarah Bergeron (Methuen, MA). Amanda Borsotti (Lee, MA) singled to leadoff the inning and advanced to second on a walk by Kendra Hobbs (Haverill, MA). Jaclyn Candelet (Pittsfield, MA) ripped a single to score Hobbs and the Trailblazers led 1-0. Greenwood then singled to load the bases. However, Salem State (29-7-1, 11-3) got out of the inning on a Bergeron strikeout and pickoff double play.
The Lady Vikings scored single runs in the fourth through sixth innings to take a lead that they would not relinquish.
Baird scored the first run after leading off with a single and scoring on a base hit by Christina Cipriani (Peabody, MA). Salem State increased their lead to 3-1 in the sixth on Baird's triple and an RBI single by Michelle Grifoni (Peabody, MA).
Kristen Lojko (Beverly, MA) relieved Bergeron and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing only two hits to pick up the win.
Greenwood took the loss pitching all six innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
Greenwood and Candelet finished with two hits apiece for MCLA. Sarah Brown (North Attleboro, MA) contributed two hits for the Lady Vikings.
