Softball Loses Two in Springfield
MCLA dropped a pair on the road as Springfield College by scores of 7-0 and 8-7.
Lynne Halley tossed a five-hit shutout to earn her first collegiate victory as the Springfield College softball team blanked visiting MCLA, 7-0, in the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Potter Field. Kelly Blake then knocked in the winning run in the eighth inning with an infield hit to give the Pride a come-from-behind second game victory, 8-7. SC is now 17-14 on the season. MCLA fell to 9-13.
In game #1, Springfield came up with a 13-hit attack, and was in control right from the very first inning when it scored twice.
In game #2, MCLA jumped on junior right-hander Katie Anderson, as the Trailblazers' first seven runners all reached base. MCLA scored three runs, with Halley coming on in relief and getting the last two outs of the inning.
In the fifth, senior leftfielder Caitlin Corry knocked in a run with a ground-out to short. That made it 6-3 and Halley was still sailing along through five full innings.
MCLA then scored four times on five hits, helped by two errors; in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. Amanda Borsotti (Lee, MA), who went 4-for-5 in this game, knocked in the go-ahead run with two outs. MCLA pounded out fourteen hits in game two. Jacklyn Candelet (Pittsfield, MA) was 3-5 with two runs scored. Kate Oullette (Norwood, MA) was 2-5 with three RBI’s. Hadley Ameen (North Adams, MA) took both losses for MCLA.
MCLA will take on Sage Colleges at home tomorrow starting at
4:00 PM.
