Trailblazers Downed by Owls
Hadley Ameen (North Adams/Drury) was the losing pitcher; giving up five hits and one walk and struck out four in a game one loss at Westfield.
MCLA’s Hadley Ameen pitched well in game one, but took the loss as MCLA lost a softball doubleheader to Westfield State by scores of 2-1 and 13-1. Junior second baseman Kristyn Carroll (Brockton) belted and two-run triple in the first game and slugged a three-run homer in the second game to lead the Owls.
Westfield State upped its record to 22-8 and remains in first place in the MASCAC with 9-3 record. MCLA is 11-23 and 3-9.
MCLA took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of the opener. Kayla Koumjian (Watervliet, NY) doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Amanda Borsotti (Lee, MA).
Westfield rallied for its two runs in the home half of the fourth. Allison Allen and Briana Isaacs singled then Carroll ripped her triple down the leftfield line for the two RBI game-winning hit.
Sophomore Madelaine Tomich (Alford/Mt. Everett HS) then held MCLA hitless over the final three innings. Tomich improved her record to 13-1 in allowing four hits and four walks and striking out eight.

Koumjian collected half of MCLA’s hits, a double and single.
In the nightcap, the Owls erupted for nine runs in the second inning and four in the third frame of the mercy rule game. The big blow was Carroll’s second-inning three-run homer down the left field line that just cleared the fence.
Westfield leadoff batter Kerin DeGirolamo (North Attleboro) was 3 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI; she finished with four hits in the twinbill.
Koumjian also led the Trailblazers in game two, going 3 for 3 at the plate.
MCLA concludes its season Saturday at Salem State College.
