MASCAC Rookie of the Year, MASCAC leader for the past two years
in goals and points in a single season, two broken single season
scoring records in one game, and one goal away from breaking the
career goals record, all are accomplishments in Jess Tietgens first
two seasons with the MCLA women’s soccer program.
Tietgens came to MCLA as a sort of homecoming. Originally from
Stamford, Vermont, the three-sport standout at Drury High School
transferred home after her first year at Westfield State College.
The return to the Berkshires gave the Tietgens family the
opportunity to see her play in every game and to share first-hand
her ever growing list accomplishments. Her two biggest fans, sister
Jill and mother Heather, are fixtures at most of her games both
home and away.
Jess is the third generation to attend the College. Heather
graduated from NASC back in 1983 with a degree in business
administration, a concentration in accounting, and a minor in
economics. Showing that it’s never to late to go to college,
Nan Witto, Jess’s grandmother~also graduated from the College
back in the mid~1970's. She returned to school after having
children and earned her degree in early childhood education.~
Following in her mother’s footsteps, Jess is a business major
with a concentration in accounting. In her free time she travels
the short ride home to care for and ride her horses. Her strong
ties to the area and the desire to be close to her family and
friends are what drew her back to Northern Berkshire County. With
the College’s close knit community and her number one fans
just minutes away, Jess has settled right in at MCLA.
