MCLA picked fifth, earns first place vote in Baseball Championship

Buzzards Bay, Mass.- MCLA earned a first place vote in the preseason coaches poll, however they are predicted to finish fifth in a preseason vote of league coaches. The Owls of Westfield State College are the pre-season pick to win the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Baseball championship. Westfield State captured three first place votes to amass 57 points in taking the top spot in the poll, as the Owls outdistanced second place Worcester State’s total of 52 points that included one first place vote. Bridgewater State, which garnered three first place votes, is next in third place with 48 points, while Salem State and MCLA follow in the fourth and fifth spots respectively with 42 and 37 points. Massachusetts Maritime is next in sixth place with 25 points, while Fitchburg State and Framingham State round out the poll in seventh and eighth place with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

MCLA begins its season on March 12th in the RussMatt invitational in Winter Haven, FL. with an opening doubleheader against UMass-Boston. The Trailblazers will open MASCAC play on March 28th against Framingham State College.
