MCLA snapped a six game losing streak with a win today over RPI. The Trailblazers move to 7-16 on the season while RPI falls to 16-10.
Rick Massey (Cheshire, MA) started and pitched into the eight giving MCLA a much needed quality start. RPI jumped out early 2-0 when Kyle Lavigne (Ashland, MA) and Patrick Reardon (Troy, NY) came around after leading the game off with a single and walk. The Engineers threatened for more, but left the bases loaded when Andrew Krushelnyski (Bloomfield Hills, MI) grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the inning.
MCLA jumped ahead in the third off Engineer starter Jason Griffith (Lititz, PA). The Trailblazers scored five times on three hits and were assisted by two RPI errors in the inning. Tim Burns (Pittsfield, MA), John Ripepi (Amsterdam, NY) and Massey all had back to back singles with one out scoring one and putting runners on the corners. Eddie George (Falls Church, VA) then got hit by a pitch loading the bases. Two errors, a walk by Joe Parillo (West Springfield, MA), a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Mike Meaney (North Adams, MA) plated four for MCLA, who didn’t look back.
Griffith took the loss falling to 0-1 on the season. Lavigne and Sunjith Murali (Plainsboro, NH) had two hits for the Engineers.
Massey (2-0) got the win going seven and a third innings and Andrew Kelly (Dalton, MA) picked up his second save of the season. Massey also had three hits on the day and Ripepi and Burns had two each. Vince Bordino (New Paltz, NY) also added a hit and a walk.
The Trailblazers look to make it two in a row tomorrow at home versus Daniel Webster College at 3:30 PM.
