Trailblazers Stun Ephs 9-8
MCLA rallied for six runs in the top of the ninth to stun the Williams College Ephs by a score of 9-8.
Williamstown, MA – MCLA rallied for six runs in the top of the ninth to stun the Williams College Ephs by a score of 9-8.
The Trailblazers trailed 8-3 after eight innings, but scored six times courtesy of five hits and a pair of Williams College errors. Osiris Mendez got the ninth started with a double and Paul Procopio followed with a walk. With one out Vincent Bordino and Bobby Beauchesne had back to back singles plating two making it 8-5. A Williams passed ball and a Joe Duncan infield hit scored two more. After another Williams error, MCLA tied the game on another infield single by Joe Parillo; and went ahead on a fielder's choice.
Williams scored seven runs (five earned) off starter Rick Massey. Adam Marske and Matt Kastner did much of the damage for the Ephs. The game was tied at 3-3 when Williams scored five in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead.
The floodgates opened for Williams in the fifth. James Allison, Cameron Susk, and Marco Hernandez singled to load the bases with no outs. Pat Barren drew an RBI walk and Mondshein hit a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-3. After Hernandez scored on a wild pitch, Marske singled home Barren.
MCLA was able to stay within striking distance thanks to their bullpen. Ross Miner, Cody Weaver and Daniel Gaines combined to go five innings of relief and surrendering just one run. Gaines picked up his fourth win of the year.
Mike Meaney had three hits and Theulen, Duncan and Beauchesne all had two hits apiece. John Ripepi had a hit and walked twice.
MCLA will go back into MASCAC play next when they travel to Worcester State Saturday.
