MCLA got back in the win column today with a 7-0 victory over Maine Presque –Isle.
MCLA got back in the win column today with a 7-0 victory over Maine Presque –Isle. Jared Gersch started for MCLA and evened his record at 2-2 on the season. Anthony Batchelder (Enfield, ME) took the loss for UMPI.
The win gives MCLA some momentum as they play a key doubleheader in the MASCAC tomorrow versus Worcester State.
MCLA scored two in the first and tacked on three more in the second inning and never looked back. Joe Duncan led off with a walk and promptly stole second and third base. He would walk home on a Peter Dassatti single to left. MCLA would add another run in the inning when Ross Miner's infield single scored Rory Slattery from third; Cody Weaver also tried to score on the play but was cut down at the plate to end the inning.
MCLA would open up the second inning with a Derek Lescarbeau walk and a Sean Coyle single. Duncan would single with the bases loaded one batter later to score Lescarbeau making it 3-0. Dassatti would follow with his second RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly. MCLA would make it 5-0 in the inning as they scored on one of five UMPI errors.
Gersch was in control throughout allowing just a single to Jordan Duffy in the third inning. Gersch did walk four batters as well.
MCLA would put up single runs in both the fourth and sixth innings as both runs would score via an Owls error. Mike Mancivalano would lead off the fourth with a double and would come around later scoring MCLA's sixth run on the afternoon.
Justin Bergeron (Tiverton, R.I.) had the Owls other hit on the afternoon and Ted Walker (Caribou, ME) walked twice. Ryan Thompson (East Millinocket, ME) and Ghazaleh Sailors (Santa Barbara, CA) pitched well in relief for UMPI. They pitched six and one-third innings and allowed just one earned run.
Chase Preite and Lescarbeau would combine for three scoreless innings of relief allowing just one hit.
Duncan had a good day at the plate going 2-4 with a walk, Joe also scored a run and had an RBI. Coyle had two hits as MCLA had ten on the day. Mancivalano scored two runs for MCLA.
UMPI will play Babson tomorrow at 12:00pm and MCLA also has a noon start tomorrow versus Worcester State.
