Gaines named to All MASCAC second team
MCLA senior left hander Daniel Gaines was selected to the All MASCAC second team following a vote of the league's coaches.
Buzzards Bay, MA- Trailblazer senior left-handed pitcher Daniel Gaines was named a second team All MASCAC selection following a vote of the league's coaches. The honor is the first for Gaines during his career. The senior helped MCLA to a mark of 14-23 in 2012.
Gaines, a Holyoke, MA native, went 5-5 during his senior campaign with seven complete games. He led the team in innings pitched and victories, while also ranking in the conference top ten for wins. The lefty was impressive in conference play earning wins over Framingham and Mass. Maritime, while also earning a shutout victory over Fitchburg.
A tough luck loss against Westfield State coupled with the win over Framingham State earned Gaines the MASCAC pitcher of the week honor. He has collected the honor numerous times throughout his career.
Bridgewater State second baseman Sean Riley was selected as the MASCAC player of the year. Salem's Matt Kerr was tabbed as the pitcher of the year, while Westfield State's Mike Molta was the rookie of the year. Bridgewater's Rick Smith was named the Turfer Coach of the Year.
