Baseball Rally Comes Up Short, Trailblazers Fall in Extras
The Trailblazers threatened late but were stopped short in MASCAC action.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The MCLA Baseball team headed down Route 2 to borrow Bobby Coombs Field at Williams College this afternoon for a MASCAC matchup with Framingham State University. Both teams got strong performances from their starting pitchers, with MCLA's Cam Harrington limiting the Rams to two runs in seven and two-thirds innings and FSU's Charlie Ambroult doing the same to the Trailblazers in eight full innings. Both would pick up no-decisions as the game was decided in the 11th after both teams scored more runs in that single frame than they had in the 10 innings before it.
THE BASICS:
- Date: Friday, April 10, 2026
- Score: Framingham 7, MCLA 5
- Records: Framingham State University Rams 4-17 (MASCAC 2-10) | MCLA Trailblazers 8-12 (MASCAC 2-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MCLA posted the first run of the game, doing so in the bottom of the first inning with a two-out rally. Chris Vargas (Queens Village, NY) kicked things off with a single that landed just inside the left field line, and was advanced to second when Mike Daley (Wallkill, NY) reached on a four-pitch walk. Roshan Warriar's (Pittsfield, MA) bloop single into centerfield was more than enough to let Vargas chug around to score.
- The teams would combine for only two base runners over the next three innings, each team having one batter reach on an error. The home team's runner was stranded at second in the third inning, while FSU's runner was wiped away on a pick off by the Trailblazers' starting pitcher Cam Harrington (Pittsfield, MA) in the fourth inning.
- Both teams would find their way around the base paths in the fifth inning. The Rams posted a pair of runs, first on a wind-assisted lead-off home run by Rosco Palmer. The second run was an unearned run that scored when Colin Johnson blooped his own single into shallow left-center field, plating Zachary Kern, who had reached on an error and put FSU ahead 2-1.
- The Trailblazers would even the score in the bottom of the same frame. Benjamin Jacob (Pittsfield, MA) opened the inning with a single through the right side of the infield and then moved to second when the Rams' catcher attempted a back-pick that was thrown wide down the rightfield line, allowing Jacob to take a free bag. Collin Gevry's (Newtown, CT) productive groundout to the second baseman advanced Jacob to third, and it was an easy RBI single by Jake Jasminski (Milford, CT) to tie the game.
- Runners would continue to be at a premium, with the Rams getting one on an error in the seventh that was stranded, and a second runner in the eighth that was eliminated when Massimo Mondi's lined shot directly to Warriar at shortstop doubled Johnson off second base, but also concluded Harrington's day after seven and two-thirds. Reliever John Arnott (Southington, CT) needed only one pitch to end the eighth and would stay on into the eleventh inning.
- Warriar was the MCLA's lone base runner, leading off the ninth by welcoming reliever August Hayes into the game with a double into the left-center field alley. Joe Sardo's (Great Neck, NY) sacrifice bunt moved Warriar to third base with only one out, but he would be stranded there after Hayes induced a ground ball to third and a pop-up to shallow right field.
- The action picked up in a grand fashion in the eleventh when Mondi and Christian Cox both reached on a walk and a hit by pitch, respectively, leading coach Mike Gladu to summon Warriar to relieve Arnott. The Rams would end the inning by pushing five runs across on run-scoring singles by Nicholas Kutcher (one RBI), Kern (two RBI), and Jakob Lindkvist (two RBI).
- The Trailblazers mounted a rally in the bottom of the frame, getting the tying run to the plate before running out of opportunities. Christopher Gallagher (Albany, NY) provided the catalyst, digging his way to a one-out infield single and moving to second on a wild pitch. Warriar's single to right-center put runners on the corners, and Sardo scored Gallagher with a single through the 3.5 hole, and Warriar took Gallagher's spot at third. Camden Zerbato (Pittsfield, MA) brought Warriar home with an RBI grounder to short. It looked like hope was lost for MCLA when Jacob squibbed a ground ball to the first baseman. Still, it was found again when the Ram defender fumbled the ball, compounded his mistake by missing a connection to the pitcher who had come over to cover the base, allowing Sardo to score from second base. Hayes then induced a ground ball to second to close out the game.
- FSU's Charlie Ambroult allowed two runs on four hits over eight innings before leaving with a no-decision. The Trailblazers' Harrington also only allowed two runs, doing so on six hits in 7.2 innings while also picking up an ND. Arnott would absorb the loss for MCLA to fall to 1-2 while Hayes picked up his second win to advance to 2-0 for the Rams.
