Baseball Drop MASCAC Matchup at Westfield
MCLA fell in MASCAC play this afternoon.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The MCLA Baseball team wrapped up its season series with the Westfield State University Owls this afternoon at Bud and Jim Hagan Field. Three Westfield State hurlers combined to limit the Trailblazers to one run on three hits to complete the season sweep.
THE BASICS:
- Date: Tuesday, April 14, 2026
- Score: MCLA 1, Westfield 13
- Records: MCLA Trailblazers 8-16 (MASCAC 2-10) | Westfield State University Owls 9-18 (MASCAC 6-6)
HOW IT WENT DOWN
- Westfield set the tone early in the game, posting three runs on just two hits in the bottom of the first inning. The biggest blow came on a double to left by Sam Palmer.
- MCLA would respond in the top of the second inning, scoring one run without the benefit of a hit. Chris Vargas (Queens Village, NY) led off with a five-pitch walk, followed by Joe Sardo (Great Neck, NY) going one better and walking on four pitches. Both runners would move up on a wild pitch before Vargas would complete his circuit on a passed ball.
- The Owls follow up with a pair of one-run innings in both the third and fourth frames, scoring on RBI singles by TJ May and Palmer.
- The fifth and sixth innings were a bit more painful for MCLA, when Westfield strung together a pair of crooked numbers. In the fifth, there was an RBI single Cayden Ferris and three straight RBI walks to Nick Lenfest, Palmer, and Chase Racine. The sixth inning saw three runs come across on three hits, including an RBI infield single by Lenfest.
- Three Owl pitchers would finish the afternoon, allowing only three hits while striking out eight. Starter Sean McNamara picked up the win to move to 2-4, allowing one run over five innings before giving way to Quinn Gallagher and Ryan Peters for an inning each. The Trailblazers' John Arnott (Southington, CT) absorbed the loss, dropping to 1-3.
- The MCLA hits were a lead-off single by Benjamin Jacob (Pittsfield, MA) in the fifth, a single by Vargas in the sixth, and a double by George Feliz (New York, NY) in the seventh.
