Baseball Swept by Bridgewater in MASCAC Play
MCLA fell twice in MASCAC play this afternoon.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Baseball team wrapped up their series with the MASCAC leading Bridgewater State University this afternoon. While the Bears would leave Joe Wolfe Field with a pair of wins, the Trailblazers were threatening as both games came to a close. In the first game, the tying run was at the plate, and two men were on base at the conclusion of the second game.
THE BASICS:
- Date: Saturday, April 18, 2026
- Game #1: BSU 6, MCLA 2
- Game #2: BSU 10, MCLA 5
- Records: Bridgewater State University 20-5 (MASCAC 14-1) | MCLA Trailblazers 8-19 (MASCAC 2-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game #1
- After the first two batters failed to reach base in the first inning, Bridgewater State kicked off a two-out rally that would be capped by Benjamin Sepeck plating a pair of runs on a single into right field, going up 2-0 before MCLA came to the plate.
- The Trailblazers would scrape back one of those runs in their half of the frame with a two-out rally of their own. Joshua Bissaillon (East Greenbush, NY) started the rally with a bloop double down the right field line. Gavin Pettit (Southington, CT) then followed up with another double into the left field corner that bounced out of play near the MCLA bullpen.
- The Bears would post single runs in both the third and fourth innings. In the third inning, Ryan Flaherty singled into center field to score Rylan Secovich, and in the fourth, Jamie Luna scored when Secovich reached on an error.
- The home team cut its deficit to two runs in the sixth inning. Clayton Dutfield (Delmar, NY) hit a one-out single up the middle, followed by a single by Roshan Warriar (Pittsfield, MA). Both runners picked up 90 feet thanks to a passed ball, and then Dutfield would score on an RBI single by Bissaillon.
- BSU added two runs during their last round at the plate, scoring twice on singles by Flaherty and Sepeck to go ahead 6-2. The runs would provide the Bears some breathing room because the Trailblazers threatened in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases with two outs thanks to a single to right by Benjamin Jacob (Pittsfield, MA), a walk by Collin Booth (Clarksburg, MA), and a walk by Mike Daley (Wallkill, NY). Still, the rally would fizzle, leaving the home team to wonder what could have been.
- Trey Yesu went the distance for Bridgewater, scattering six hits over seven innings, allowing only two runs and striking out six to move to 2-3 on the season. MCLA's Jake Jasminski (Milford, CT) suffered the loss, falling to 1-4.
- Game #2
- The teams combined for eight runs to open the nightcap. BSU pushed home five runs on six hits. The biggest blows came on RBI singles by Sepeck, Nick Berube, and an RBI double by DJ Prampin.
- The Trailblazers would respond with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the inning. The trend of two-out rallies continued for the home team. This time it was a walk by Bissaillon, followed by a single through the five and a half hole by Camden Zerbato (Pittsfield, MA). Bissaillon then scored when Joe Sardo (Great Neck, NY) reached on an error. After Chris Vargas (Queens Village, NY) loaded the bases with a walk, Sardo and Zerbato scored on Jacob's single to right.
- BSU followed with a pair of one-run innings. In the second, it was an RBI groundout by Joshua Selander, and in the third, it was an RBI single by Jeyden Espinal.
- MCLA got one of the runs back in the bottom of the third when they chased the Bears' starter from the game, loading the bases on walks by Zerbato and Vargas sandwiched around a single by Sardo. Two pitches into his game, the Bears' reliever Logan Cormier plunked Jacob with a pitch to push a run across.
- The teams again traded runs in the fifth inning. The Bridgewater run was on a long home run that cleared the top of the scoreboard in left field. For the home team, the two-out rally trend continued with Jacob hitting a stand-up double into the left-center field alley and then Brady Sturdivant (Milton, MA) singled through the left side of the infield for the RBI.
- The visitors were able to stretch their lead with a two-run single by Selander.
- Cormier would pitch the final four and two-thirds, striking out eight to pick up his third win, advancing to 3-0. Bissaillon tossed five innings for MCLA but dropped to 0-2.
