Baseball Drops Non-Conference Clash with Skidmore
Dariel Rodriguez drove in two runs, and Jacob Olson had two hits, but MCLA fell in non-conference play.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Baseball team welcomed Skidmore College to Joe Wolfe Field for the Trailblazers penultimate non-conference game of the 2026 season. The home team fell behind early but continued to fight, scoring six runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined, highlighted by a two-run single by Dariel Rodriguez, ultimately surrendering a 14-6 decision to the Thoroughbreds.
THE BASICS:
- Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2026
- Score: Skidmore 14, MCLA 6
- Records: Skidmore College Thoroughbreds 17-12 (Liberty 4-8) | MCLA Trailblazers 8-21 (MASCAC 2-14)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skidmore made the most of seven extra-base hits, including three triples by Luke Warzynski, Eddie Galvao, and Jack Riva, to build up a double-digit lead during the middle innings of the game, posting crooked number frames in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to plate 11 runs before MCLA got on the board in the seventh inning.
- The Trailblazers scored three runs on three hits and an error in the seventh, but also left the bases loaded at the end of the frame. The rally started with a lead-off infield single by Christopher Gallagher (Albany, NY) and a four-pitch walk to Riley Derenzo (Schenectady, NY). Gavin Pettit's (Southington, CT) groundball to second looked like an easy double play ball, but the relay throw from the shortstop to first sailed high, allowing Gallagher to score the home team's first run. Petit would later come around to score when Maximus Krasnow (Southwest Ranches, FL) reached on an, and Krasnow would score on an RBI single by Nolan Space (Valatie, NY).
- MCLA followed with another three-spot in the eighth inning, opening the inning with walks by Gallagher, Derenzo, and Petit. Dariel Rodriguez (Bronx, NY) made the Skidmore pay for the free passes with a two-run single to left field. After a Krasnow walked reloaded the bases, Petit would score on a wild pitch to score what would be the final run of the game.
- Six Thoroughbred pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters, with Alex Tavano picking up the win to move his record to 1-0. MCLA starter Caleb Welcome (Rensselaer, NY) took the loss to even his record at 1-1.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The win for Skidmore was the 500th of the Thoroughbreds' head coach, Ron Plourde's career. Congratulations on the accomplishment, Coach.
