MCLA goes cold, drops second straight in falling to Westfield 69-56
The MCLA Men's basketball team dropped their second consecutive game, dropping a 69-56 decision at Westfield State. The Trailblazers are now 14-5 overall, 5-2 in the MASCAC. Jon Greenberg had 19 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out.
Westfield, MA- The MCLA Men's basketball team dropped their second consecutive game, dropping a 69-56 decision at Westfield State. The Trailblazers are now 14-5 overall, 5-2 in the MASCAC. Westfield improves to 8-12 overall, 4-3 in the league.
Westfield clamped down on the Trailblazers, holding MCLA to a season low point total. MCLA was doomed from the floor as they shot just 30% on the night.
Westfield pulled away late for the victory. After MCLA's Ramon Viches steal and ensuing layup pulled the Trailblazers within a pair at 52-50 with 5:27 to play, Westfield would outscore MCLA 17-4 the rest of the way to secure the win.
MCLA would get within six in the closing minutes, but some clutch free throw shooting from the Owls extended the lead.
MCLA was led by Jon Greenberg who had 19 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out. He was joined in double figures by Jamal Brown who added 10 points and 12 rebounds. MCLA's second leading scorer Chris Harris was held without a field goal on the night.
The Owls were led by Lee Vazquez' 16 points, while Matt Devine added 13 points and 13 boards. Jesse Benoit and Chris Jurkowski each had 11 points in the win.
The two teams will meet again, this time in North Adams, on Tuesday evening.
