North Adams, MA- Last season, Dakari Hannah Wornum split time with a pair of teammates and was mostly used as a rim protector for the MCLA Men's Basketball program. Fast forward one year later, and Hannah Wornum has quickly emerged as one of the dominant big men in the country.
The 6'7 center with the long wingspan came to MCLA last season after transferring in from Mount Ida College. His immediate impact was on the defensive side as a sophomore leading the Trailblazers in blocks. Working hard in the offseason to improve his offensive game, Hannah Wornum has now become the focus of opposing teams.
He is scoring over 10 points per game, many of which are of the second chance variety. Hannah Wornum has set career highs this season in points, rebounds, and blocked shots. Back on November 15th, he totaled 19 points on 7-8 shooting in a win over Norwich University. In his last game out, a win over Vermont Tech in the Tri State Shootout, he totaled a monstrous 27 rebounds and collected his fifth double double of the season. Twice this season, once against Wesleyan (CT) and the other vs. Lyndon, he rejected 7 shots.
Hannah Wornum currently ranks amongst the national leaders in six statistical categories and leads the MASCAC in those six categories. Here are his current ranks:
| NCAA Rank | MASCAC Rank | |
| Total Rebounds (136) | 1st | 1st |
| Rebounds Per Game (13.6) | 3rd | 1st |
| Offensive Rebounds (4.9) | 4th | 1st |
| Defensive Rebounds (8.7) | 8th | 1st |
| Total Blocks (37) | 2nd | 1st |
| Blocks Per Game (3.7) | 3rd | 1st |
| Field Goal % (60.3) | 1st | |
| Double Doubles (5) | 15th | T-1st |
Hannah Wornum credits his work over the summer and passion for the game as the main reason for such success. The lanky center has also dramatically improved his free throw shooting as he currently is making 66% of his FT's compared to just 36% a year ago.
Hannah Wornum has been committed to improving his offensive totals as evidenced by his work ethic over the summer. He stayed on campus throughout the summer trying to improve all facets of his game. Now, the man in the middle will do what ever it takes to take the Trailblazers to the next level.
"I just want to do whatever I can to make this team successful, whether that's blocking shots or grabbing rebounds, I just know that I have to work for it," Hannah Wornum said modestly when asked what he takes pride in.
While the Trailblazers currently are sitting at 3-7 as they head into semester break, the program has gone through a murderers row type schedule. They lost six straight games, all of which were against regional powers, but in the end will prepare them for conference play.
Hannah Wornum and the Trailblazers have their sights set on winning a MASCAC title in the new year, and he's focused on making that happen. "The MASCAC is up for grabs this season and we just need to work hard and do whatever it takes to win those close games," he said in advance of league play.
MCLA will begin play again on December 31st when they take on Sage College at home. The MASCAC opener will be on January 6th at Worcester State.
