WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The MCLA Men's Basketball team wrapped up their weekend at the Williams College Purple and Gold Classic with a non-conference showing against the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs. Colin Quinn provided the Trailblazers with the spark they needed to pick up their first win of the season, scoring 20 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
THE BASICS:
- Date: Sunday, November 16, 2025
- Score: SUNY Morrisville 69, MCLA 84
- Records: SUNY Morrisville Mustangs 0-2 (SUNYAC 0-0) | MCLA Trailblazers 1-1 (MASCAC 0-0)
HIGHLIGHTS
- MCLA led the game from wire to wire. After senior guard Jake Bluestein (San Diego, CA) caused a turnover by the Mustangs, senior guard Craig Williams (Dover, DE) drove to the basket but dished out to junior guard Kamau Franks (Converse, TX) in the right side corner for a wide open three to put the Trailblazers in front.
- MCLA opened the game with a 14-4 run of nearly five minutes that was capped by a pair of made free throws by freshman guard Alex Parker (Melbourne, Australia). The Mustangs then responded with a 9-4 run to cut the lead back to seven when Sakhi Shury-Muse hit a layup to make the score 18-11. Freshman forward Sol Mierzwa (Austin, TX) responded with a three from the right elbow to restore lead to double-digits, and a lead that the Trailblazers wouldn't relinquish, finishing the first half ahead 39-29.
- Sophomore guard Frank Field (Adams, MA) opened the second half scoring, draining a jumper before Morrisville opened a 7-0 run that ended with a layup by Jacob Works to pull within 41-36. A three from the left corner by Kamau over an outstretched Mustang defender ended the run, and that would be as close as the Morrisville would get.
- Junior guard Colin Quinn (South Hadley, MA) led all scorers with 20 points in 19 minutes off the bench, including 13 points in the second half alone, fueled by a 7-8 showing at the charity stripe. Fields added 13 points with 11 of his being after the break. Franks finished the game with 12 points to round out the MCLA trio of double digit scorers. Shury-Muse and Jalyn Moorehead paced the Mustangs with 11 points apiece. Senior forward Jayden Mills (Bronx, NY) finished the afternoon with a game-high eight boards while Williams had a game-high five assists.
