PAXTON, Mass. – The MCLA Men's Basketball team took to the road this afternoon, heading east to face the newest member of the MASCAC, taking on the Anna Maria College AMCATs at the Fuller Activities Center. Anna Maria's Lucas Miglionico led all scorers with 25 points while the Trailblazers were led by 19 points from Craig Williams. HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game started out as a defensive struggle, with the teams needing over seven minutes of play to combine for 10 points. Anna Maria posted the first four points of the game before the Trailblazers responded with a 13-0 run. The run was started by a three by graduate student guard Colby Burleson (Pittsboro, NC) and was capped by a layup from junior guard Colin Quinn (South Hadley, MA) to jump out to a nine-point lead with 11 and a half minutes to go in the first half.
- The AMCATs didn't go away though, responding with their longest run of the afternoon, an 8-0 to get within one point at 13-12. The teams then traded baskets until the home team rounded out the half with a 7-2 run over the final three and a half minutes to go into the locker room ahead 30-25.
- Following a defensive first half, the teams found their shooting touch in the second half, combining for 92 points. For the first 12 minutes of the second half, the teams continued to match each other almost shot for shot, but MCLA couldn't get any closer than within in two points when freshman guard Frank Field (Adams, MA) converted on a pair of foul shots to make the score 49-47 with 11:51 to play.
- That would be the last time MCLA would be that close. From that point forward, AMC would out score the Trailblazers 32-19.
- The AMCATs' Lucas Miglionico led all scorers with 25 points, including a 14-16 showing at the foul line.
- MCLA was paced by 19 points from senior guard Craig Williams (Dover, DE), including 17 in the second half. Williams also had seven boards, trailing only Field and graduate student forward Jaxen Potter (Ballston Spa, NY) who each pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
- The Trailblazers also got double-digit point totals from junior guard Kamau Franks (Converse, TX) (12 points), Field (11 points), and Field (10 points).
