Field & Mills Record Double-Doubles to Lead Men’s Basketball Past Bridgewater, 86-76
Five Trailblazers scored double-digit points in MCLA’s MASCAC win over Bridgewater State this evening.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Men's Basketball team welcomed Bridgewater State University to the Amsler Campus Center for a MASCAC matchup with the Bears. Bridgewater's Zach Taylor scored a game-high 21 points, but it wasn't enough to stop a balanced Trailblazer attack that had five players score double-digit points, led by double-doubles for Frank Field and Jayden Mills.
THE BASICS
- Date: Wednesday, February 11, 2026
- Score: Bridgewater 76, MCLA 86
- Records: Bridgewater State University Bears 7-15 (MASCAC 5-6) | MCLA Trailblazers 7-13 (MASCAC 4-7)
HIGHLIGHTS
- The teams started the game sizing each other up, with MCLA only leading by one at 10-9 with five minutes off the clock. MCLA then went on a three-minute, 9-0 run that started with a three-pointer by graduate student guard Colby Burleson (Pittsboro, NC) and was capped by a layup by freshman guard Frank Field (Adams, MA), building the lead to 19-10.
- The Trailblazers would grow that lead to as many as a dozen points, first on a layup by Field with 10:42 (23-11) to go, and a layup by senior guard Craig Williams (Dover, DE) with just about 10 minutes left in the half (25-13), sandwiched around a layup by the Bears' Jacob Stull.
- With Bridgewater starting to close the gap, it was a home team dunk by senior forward Jayden Mills (Bronx, NY) that stopped a BSU scoring burst and pushed the momentum back towards the Trailblazers at 27-18.
- The Bears would rally back before the end of the half, drawing even at 29-29 when Sam Sweeney dropped a three for Bridgewater with around four and a half minutes to go in the opening frame. The teams would then close out the first half, tied at 33-33.
- In the opening minutes of the second half, the teams again just traded baskets with neither team pulling too far ahead until MCLA started an 8-0 run beginning with a layup from Williams at 15:28, and capped by a senior forward Jayden Mills (Bronx, NY) layup that was aided by an assist from freshman guard Alex Parker (Melbourne, Australia) that brought the score to 49-41.
- The Bears would respond with another run, flipping the lead to 54-53 on a three-pointer by Dante Kikuba with nine and a half minutes to go, only to see the Trailblazers' freshman forward Sol Mierzwa (Austin, TX) drain a three-pointer on the other end.
- MCLA began to pull away with 4:41 to go, thanks to a three from Williams and another layup for Field that brought the score to 68-62.
- After a Louis Jennings layup for BSU cut the lead to 68-64, MCLA responded with 8-2 run finished when junior guard Kamau Franks (Converse, TX) converted on an and one opportunity.
- MCLA closed out the win, sinking eight of ten free throws in the closing minutes.
- Bridgewater's Zach Taylor led all scorers with 21 points, while Sweeney added 17. Jennings recorded a double-double with 14 points to go with a game-high 13 boards.
- MCLA had a quintet of players finish with double-digit point totals, led by Field with 18 and Williams with 16. Mills (14), Franks (12), and Burleson (12) rounded out the grouping. Both Field and Mills ended with double-doubles, both cleaning up on the glass for 10 rebounds.
