Moore Scores Twice as Men’s Hockey Take Down Hiram College, 5-2
MCLA won in non-conference play this evening.
CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio – The MCLA Men's Hockey team took to the road for a weekend road trip to Ohio for a pair of games at first year program Hiram College's The Pond - Ice Rink & Sports Complex. Easton Moore had two goals and an assist while Rocco Stolz stopped 18 shots to lead the Trailblazers past the Terriers, 5-2.

HIGHLIGHTS
- MCLA opened the scoring just over 13 minutes into the game when junior forward Easton Moore (Red Deer, AB / Florida Eels) (13:18 of the 1st period, assisted by Schifferl & Ogborn) notched his first goal of the season with helpers from junior forward Sean Schifferl (Fort Myers, FL / N.H. Monarchs) and junior defenseman Colin Ogborn (Linwood, NJ / Philadelphia H.C.). The assist were also the firsts of the season for Schifferl and Ogborn.
- The Trailblazers doubled their lead before the first frame was done, adding a second goal on the power play off the stick of freshman forward Jacob Smith (Medford, NJ / Philadelphia H.C.) (PP, 16:12, Perdion & Fricchione) assisted by freshman forward Sam Perdion (Strongsville, OH / Charlotte Rush) and junior defenseman Luc Fricchione (West Springfield, MA / Worcester State). The goal and the assist were the first of their collegiate careers for both Smith and Perdion while the Fricchione's assist was his first of the season.
- Moore (5:00 of 2nd, Zis) notched his second goal of the game exactly five minutes into the second period lighting the lamp off a pass through the neutral zone from senior defenseman Connor Nagy (Trenton, MI / Finlandia University) via sophomore forward Sam Zis (Boulder, CO / Connecticut Chiefs) with a shot through the five hole. The assists were the second of the year for Zis and first for Nagy.
- Moore played a key role in MCLA's fourth goal of the night. With junior forward Cade Herrera (Brentwood, CA / Seahawks H.C) applying pressure to a Terrier in the corner, Moore swept into intercept a pass out along the right boards. Moore then skated towards the goal line and passed out to Schifferl (6:44 of 3rd, Moore) who lined a shot into the lower left corner of the goal. The goal was Schifferl's second of the season while the assist was Moore's second.
- Hiram would end the shutout with just over five minutes remaining when Markus Olson (14:17, unassisted) found the net for the home team. The Terriers added a second tally with a power play goal from Harrison Flaacke (PP, 15:53, Smilowitz) assisted by Keith Smilowitz.
- The Trailblazers added an empty net goal in the final minute to help secure their first win of the season. Zis (19:31, unassisted) scored the goal on a break away to ice the game away. Assists on the play were credited to junior forward Quinn Murphy (Champaign, IL / Philadelphia H.C.) and freshman goalie Roco Stolz (Denver, CO / Charlotte Rush). The dimes were the first of the year for both Murphy and Stolz.
- MCLA's Stolz stopped 18 of 20 shots faced to record his first collegiate win, moving to 1-0-0. For Hiram, Mark Paton suffered the defeat despite stopping 33 shots to fall to 0-2-0.
- The game is the first of his career for first-year head coach Marcus Gloss.
