HIGHLIGHTS
- Framingham jumped out to an early lead, scoring a pair of goals about seven minutes apart in the first period. The first goal was credited to Michael Kennedy (7:05 of 1st period, assisted by Grig Kaagan). The second was by Scott Brent (14:43, Scott Bugarin & Sam Larkin).
- The Trailblazers responded, cutting the lead back to a single goal about four minutes later with a power play goal after the home team was called for too many men on the ice. Junior defenseman Shane Green (Bear, DE / Philadelphia Little Flyers) started the play from the left point, sending the puck along the wall to junior forward Sean Schifferl (Fort Myers, FL / N.H. Monarchs) behind the net. Schifferl sent it back the way it came to junior forward Easton Moore (Red Deer, AB / Florida Eels) along the boards. Moore quickly redirected the puck to junior forward Cade Herrera (Brentwood, CA / Seahawks H.C). Herrera (PP, 18:36, Moore & Schifferl) was positioned in front of the net for the quick chip in.
- The equalizer came early in the second period. freshman forward Charles Vukovic (Castaic, CA / Express Hockey Club) brought the puck into the Rams' defensive end and left the puck for junior forward Cody White (Orange, CT / East Coast Wizards) in the right side circle. Framingham's Benjamin O'Keefe was up to the task, stopping White's effort, deflecting the puck to a Ram defender. The Framingham pass out was too far for the Ram player, allowing Vukovic (6:25 of 2nd period, unassisted) to pick his pocket and skate along the right board for before getting a narrow-angled shot on net that found its way in the goal. The goal was the first of the season for Vukovic.
- The game remained tied at two goals apiece into the late stages of the third period despite MCLA having to kill off four power plays in the last frame.
- With the clock ticking down under one minute to play, Herrera fired a shot from the right point that went high and wide of the net, but fell off the glass to the stick of junior forward Quinn Murphy (Champaign, IL / Philadelphia H.C.) behind the goal. Murphy skated out to the left corner leaving the puck for Schifferl and then curling back to the front of the net. Schifferl put a pass on the tape to Murphy (19:05.7 of 3rd period, assisted by Schifferl) who wristed a shot under the cross bar for what would turn out to be the game winner.
- Freshman goaltender Roco Stolz (Denver, CO / Charlotte Rush) stopped 30 of 32 shots to even his record at 3-3-1 for MCLA, while Framingham's O'Keefe fell to 1-2-0 after recording 30 saves.
