Men’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Nonconference Decision to Sage
MCLA fell 2-0 to Sage College in a nonconference men’s soccer action.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 nonconference decision to visiting Sage College this afternoon at Shewcraft Field. With the result the Gators improve to 5-1-0 while the Trailblazers fall to 2-4-0.
Sage dominated possession and carried most of the play in the first half before finally breaking through in the 40th minute. Dimitri Gogas collected a loose ball and dribbled it to just inside the crease before putting home a tight angled shot on the far side past MCLA keeper Oliver Le Lachuer (L, 2-4-0) to give the Gators a 1-0 advantage which they took into the break.
MCLA responded with increased pressure to start the second half but struggled to produce any quality scoring chances until the 87th minute when a Marcos Lopez chip shot sailed just wide. Less than a minute later Sage's Peter Marillotta put the game away with his first goal of the season to give the Gators the 2-0 win.
Sage goalie Mateja Milutin (W, 4-1-0) made three saves while earning the shutout win. Le Lachuer made 10 stops in the losing effort.
THe Gators outshot the Trailblazers 26-11 and had a 9-2 advantage in corners.
Sage next visits Alfred University Saturday afternoon at 1pm while MCLA next hosts MASCAC rival Bridgewater State on Friday evening at 7pm.
