Trailblazers Can't Keep Lancers Bats Down
MCLA got beat by Worcester State in a pair of teams tied in conference play with a record of 2-2.
MCLA got beat by Worcester State in a pair of teams tied in conference play with a record of 2-2. Worcester broke the tie by beating MCLA 10-1 and 16-1. Worcester State is now 11-13 overall on the season and MCLA falls to 4-20.
Worcester scored two in the first inning of game one off MCLA starter Ainsley MacDonald. Kaitlyn Storro doubled in Erica Cordio and Lancer pitcher Hannah Everson with two outs in the inning. Worcester would add two more in the second. Cordio doubled home Alex Kerr and scored herself on a single by Ashley Howe.
MCLA would get one back in the bottom frame when Erin Kelley singled and then scored when Sam Barbarotta doubled her home with one out. Barbarotta was left stranded when Taylor Warnock grounded out and Marissa Mendetta popped to second base.
MCLA wouldn't get another hit in game one and Worcester would add four in the fifth and two in the seventh, all off MacDonald.
Kaitland Hager and Mendetta would add walks for MCLA.
Storro had two hits and three runs batted in for the Lancers. Everson (7-5) picked up the victory, allowing just two hits and one run as she struck-out ten.
MacDonald took the loss, tossing her fifteenth complete game of the year. She yielded nine hits and six earned runs on the day.
Game two was similar to game one as Worcester scored in its first five innings and then exploded for nine runs in the seventh off MCLA pitcher Kelly Pirzl.
It was already 1-0 in the second inning when Carolyn Hassett doubled and then later scored on an error. Worcester State would score three more times in the inning. Cordio had the big blow in the inning scoring three runs on her drive to the gap. Cordio had five hits on the day for the Lancers and would later homer in the fourth inning.
MCLA would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth trailing 6-0. Kendra Hobbs led off with a double and scored with one out on a sacrifice fly off the bat off Angelica Perfido.
MCLA couldn't string any hits together as Katelyn Lantange and Kayla Koumjian each hit their way on in the fifth and sixth innings respectively, but the MCLA bats couldn't bring them around.
Worcester State would explode for nine in the seventh inning. The big hits were a two-run double by Storro and a based clearing double off the bat of Kerr.
Lancer pitcher Katie Roy had a big day on the mound and at the dish. Roy pitched a complete game allowing four hits and one run (unearned); she also had three hits and five RBI's.
Pirzl also went the distance and allowed fifteen hits, but just six of the sixteen Lancer runs were earned.
Worcester will host Framingham at noon on Patriots Day and MCLA will travel to Bridgewater for a 1:00pm start.
