Softball Suffers Three Losses at Space Coast Spring Games
MCLA dropped three non-conference matches at the Space Coast Spring Games.
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The MCLA Softball team finished up their annual spring break road trip this afternoon with games against the Central College Dutch and the UMass-Boston Beacons. The Trailblazers also finished their game against the Beacons, which had been suspended due to lightning and rain on Sunday.

- Series History: Central now leads the all-time series 2-0. The Dutch took the only other meeting of the teams by the score of 10-0 on March 16, 2007.

- Series History: UMass-Boston now leads the all-time series 10-4. The Beacons won the last meeting of the teams by the score of 5-4 on March 15, 2017. The teams first met on April 17, 1976, but the results were not recorded.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game #1
- All of the offense in this game came in the first two innings, with all eight runs being scored by Central. In the first inning, the Dutch scored five runs on three hits, a walk, and the benefit of an error. The inning included RBI singles from Hannah Higgins, Katelyn McCallum, and Jadyn Huisman.
- Central stretched its lead in the second inning, adding three more runs on four hits. The hits included RBI singles from Higgins, McCallum, and Addi Starr.
- Game #2 (finalization of game suspended on 3/15/26)
- UMass-Boston scored runs in four of the five innings played. The run in the first inning was scored when Hayley Krockta singled through the left side of the infield to score Lauren Miner, who had walked and stolen both second and third base.
- The Beacons used five hits to plate three more runs in the second inning, with the big hit being a two-run triple by Mary Matthews.
- MCLA was limited to three hits, singles by Amelia Leasure (Pittsfield, MA) in the second inning, Nevaeh Lopez (Pittsfield, MA) in the third inning, and Gabrielle Goonan (Washington, MA) in the fifth.
- Game #3
- The Trailblazers were first on the scoreboard in the regularly scheduled game between the teams. Lopez led off with a single to right field and then stole second and moved to third on Hannah Mitchem's (Baltimore, MD) bunt single. Mitchem then got into a rundown, allowing Lopez to score before Mitchem was tagged out on the bases.
- UMass-Boston leveled the score in the third inning, scoring a run on two hits, including an RBI single by Miner. The Beacons took the lead in the next frame on an RBI single by Molly Wilson.
- The Beacons broke out with a crooked number in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on four hits, including RBI singles from Miner and Marin Prest.
- MCLA responded with a crooked number of their own in the bottom of the frame on three hits and four costly errors by UMass-Boston. Hannah Mitchem (Baltimore, MD) and Amelia Leasure (Pittsfield, MA) each picked up RBI singles during the rally.
- Miner drove in two more runs for the Beacons with a bases-clearing triple to right in the sixth inning and another on a double by Prest in the seventh.

On Wednesday March 25th, MCLA will be back in action when it travels the Fighting Tigers Park on the campus of SUNY Cobleskill for a non-conference doubleheader with the Fighting Tigers. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
