Softball Drop Playoff Game at Westfield State
MCLA fell in the MASCAC playoff quarterfinal round this afternoon.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The MCLA Softball team advanced to the second round of the MASCAC playoffs for the first time since 2015. Their reward was a trip to face the MASCAC top-seeded Westfield State Owls at Sullivan Field. The Owls' Angelina Vartuli tamed the Trailblazer bats, holding MCLA hitless for six innings before Sarah Hough ended the game with a three-run home run, her second of the afternoon, advancing the home team in the winners' bracket.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Westfield opened the scoring with one out in the first inning on a solo home run by MASCAC player of the year Sarah Hough. The home team would add three more runs before the frame was over, first on an RBI double by Allyssa Slack and then a two-run single by Caroline O'Donnell.

- Hough finished the game with her second home run of the afternoon, giving Westfield an 8-0 lead.
- MCLA got their lone base runner of the afternoon when Slack couldn't handle a pop-up on the infield, allowing Hailey Peabody (W. Springfield, MA) to reach on an error.
- WSU's Angelina moved to 13-1 after facing only one batter over the minimum and striking out 12 against zero walks. The Trailblazers' Allie Mienaltowski (Delanson, NY) absorbed the loss, dropping her record to 8-9.
On Friday, MCLA will be back in action when it plays in a win-or-go-home MASCAC quarterfinal matchup with the Bridgewater State Bears at Sullivan Field on the campus of Westfield State. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
