Dobrovolc leads MCLA past St. Joseph (CT) in season opener 64-54

North Adams, MA- MCLA Junior Alie Dobrovolc had a game high 23 points in leading MCLA to a season opening victory over St. Joseph (CT) 64-54 at the Amsler Campus Center. The loss evens St. Joseph's record to 1-1.
Both teams played a fast paced opening half as MCLA held a slim 27-26 lead at the break. MCLA would gain a five point edge just five minutes into the second period, but the Blue Jays would battle back and eventually take the lead at 43-42 with just over ten minutes to play.
Dobrovolc would then score eleven consecutive points for MCLA during an 11-2 run to put the Trailblazers ahead to stay, leading 53-44 with 7:04 left. St. Joseph would get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
MCLA was solid on the defensive front as they held the fast paced Blue Jay offense to 21% shooting (16-77) on the night. Strong second half rebounding was key as Jen Wehner and newcomer Courtney Terzi finished with 12 and 11 boards respectively.
The Blue Jays were led Ilario Schiano and Devon Diliberto who would each finish with 12 points. Mary Hyde finished with 10 caroms.
MCLA returns to action this weekend when they travel to WNEC for the Golden Bear tip off classic.
