MCLA pulls away from Hartwick 79-66

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers improved to 5-3 with a strong second half performance to pull away from visiting Hartwick College 79-66 Thursday night. Jen Wehner collected 23 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Hartwick falls to 3-4 with the setback.
The first half saw MCLA's Wehner score her team's first seven points, but a three from Hartwick's Marie Davison gave the visitors a 10-7 lead with 16:23 to go. The Trailblazers responded with a quick 7-0 burst as Alie Dobrovolc started the run with a triple while Wehner ended it with a pair of free throws making it 14-10. After trading baskets and the visitors holding a slim 18-16 edge, MCLA used an 11-2 run for their largest lead of the half. Hartwick would trim the margin to a deuce at the half (35-33) stemming from a trio of baskets behind the arc over the final three minutes.
In the second half, after Hartwick took their only lead 43-42 with 13:44 left, they would trade hoops again until they were finally knotted up at 49 apiece. MCLA then went on a 20-5 run to pull away from the Hawks.
Wehner added six blocks to her stat line, while Alie Dobrovolc joined her in double figures with 14. Lucy Tremblay scored seven points in her 2010 debut after an injury.
For Hartwick, Kate Purcell tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds. Maria Foglia added 11 points, while Davison notched nine points, all from behind the arc.
MCLA will host Johnson State on Saturday afternoon.
