Wehner earns second NEWBA honor of the season
MCLA forward Jen Wehner earned her second New England Women's Basketball Association player of the week honors following her career best week that included her 1,000th career point.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts junior forward Jen Wehner has earned the NEWBA/PrestoSports Player of the Week award for the week of February 7-13. This is the second time this season that she has been been selected to receive the honor.
Wehner was nearly unstoppable in a 2-1 week for the Trailblazers. The forward piled up 25.0 points and 18.3 rebounds per game while shooting 60.5% (26-43) from the floor and 78.6% (22-28) from the charity stripe. With her 22 points against Westfield State University on Tuesday, she became the first player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau during her junior season. Wehner exploded for a career best 32 points to go with 25 boards in a 72-60 victory over Salem State University on Thursday. Two days later, she closed her week out with a 21-point, 13-rebound performance in a 72-63 win over Framingham State University.
Wehner and the Trailblazers enter the final week of the regular season battling for playoff position. They travel to Fitchburg tomorrow night before closing out the regular season at home vs. Bridgewater on Saturday.
