North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's basketball team completed its most successful regular season in school history on Saturday, earning the third seed in the upcoming 2011 MASCAC tournament championship. MCLA will host Framingham State at 7pm on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round as they look to defend their 2010 tournament championship.
The Trailblazers are led by Head Coach Holly McGovern, who in her sixth season continues to move the program forward. One year removed from their first title in school history, McGovern led MCLA to its best regular season ever, amassing a 16-8 record, including an 8-4 mark in the MASCAC. The third place finish is also the best in the history of the program.
On the floor, MCLA is led by junior forward Jen Wehner. Wehner has been a dominant force this season as she leads the conference in scoring, rebounding, blocks, and field goal percentage. She has four games this season in which she tallied over 20 points and 20 rebounds. For her efforts, she has been named the conferences player of the week on five different occasions while also collecting NEWBA and ECAC honors as well. Fellow junior Alie Dobrovolc completed her finest season in a Trailblazer uniform as she also averaged double figures.
MCLA swept Framingham during the regular season. They defeated the Rams at home on January 20th, 75-65. MCLA then handled the Rams on the road a few weeks later, besting Framingham 72-63.
The winner will move on to the MASCAC semifinal round and will face 2nd seeded Bridgewater State on Thursday at 7pm.
