Jen Wehner Named MASCAC Player of the Year
MCLA junior forward Jen Wehner has been named as the 2010-11 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and heads the league’s all-conference squad in a vote taken of the conference’s seven coaches.
Buzzards Bay, Mass. — MCLA junior forward Jen Wehner has been named as the 2010-11 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year and heads the league's all-conference squad in a vote taken of the conference's seven coaches.
A native of Cooperstown, N.Y., Wehner led the league in both scoring and rebounding at 17.6 points per game and 14.3 rebounds per game during the regular season, as she also paced the conference with a .557 field goal percentage in leading the Trailblazers to a 16-8 regular season mark and a tie for second place in league play that featured eight MASCAC triumphs. The Trailblazers 8-4 mark in MASCAC is a school record.
The Trailblazer junior center ranks 8th in the nation in rebounding and is 5th in nation with her 20 double doubles. Wehner has recorded several games this year with over 20 points and 20 rebounds. Wehner has already passed 1,000 points for her career, something she did on February 8th versus Westfield State.
Wehner has been named MASCAC Player of the Week five times this season and ECAC Player of the week three of those times.
Wehner and her Trailblazer teammates will take on Bridgewater State on Thursday at 7:00 PM in the MASCAC Conference tournament semi-finals at Bridgewater.
