HOW IT WENT DOWN
- The Badgers opened the game with an 8-3 run that was capped off by a pair of free throws made by former Trailblazer Kristie Zator with 3:28 on the clock. Senior forward Ashlyn Bill (Windham, CT) responded back for MCLA with a 12-foot jumper from the right side to pull the home team within three before the first quarter expired.
- The team traded baskets to open the second quarter, with senior guard/forward Hailey Peabody (W. Springfield, MA) converting on a reverse layup off a feed from sophomore forward Amare Williams (Woburn, MA). VTSU answered back when Faith Benjamin picked up an offensive board on a shot by Faith Meade and laid the ball back in. That play kicked off a 14-6 run for the visitors to close out the first half at 22-13.
- MCLA rallied back after the intermission, closing to within a single point on a three-point shot from junior guard Dakota Quick (Connelly, NY) to make the score 22-21 just under two minutes into the third quarter. It would be as close the Trailblazers would get because the Badgers outscored the home team 10-3 for the remainder of the quarter.
- The home team continued to battle, getting back within three points early in the fourth quarter when Quick drained a three from the left elbow after a cross-court pass from Peabody, making the score 32-29.
- While never quite getting over the hump, the Trailblazers stubbornly stuck around, holding VTSU to only four baskets on 20 attempts in the fourth quarter.
- Peabody capped the night off with a long three as the clock expired, finalizing the score at 44-39.
- MCLA's Peabody finished the game with a double-double, including a game-high 14 points and 10 rebounds. Bill and sophomore guard Abigail Scialabba (Williamstown, MA) paced the home team with 12 boards each. Bill and Peabody each added three blocked shots on the defensive end.
- The Badgers were led by Kamryn Devero who scored 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench. VTSU's Zator gathered a game-high 19 rebounds and four assists.
