Women’s Hockey Drop MASCAC Game 3-2 to Salem State
Athlete Kiera Grom and Michaella Gonzalez each scored, but MCLA fell in MASCAC play this evening.
SALEM, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Ice Hockey team took to the road this evening, traveling to Salem State University and the Rockett Arena for a MASCAC matchup with the Vikings. Kiera Grom and Michaella Gonzalez each scored their first goals of the season and Katherine Moose stopped 33 of 36 shots as MCLA fell to the Vikings 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A scoreless first period, during which the home team held an 11-8 edge in shots, was followed by a period in which the teams combined for 10 shots but came away with two scores, one for each team.
- The Vikings put the first point on the scoreboard when Isabelle Besser (6:18 of the 2nd period, assisted by Thunell).
- MCLA responded with a goal of their own with just under three and a half minutes left in the second period when sophomore forward Kiera Grom (Livonia, MI / Belle Tire) (16:33, Bissaillion) knocked home a pass from junior defenseman Summer Bissaillion (Blind River, ON / Sudbury Wolves) to even the score.
- Less than three minutes into the third period, first-year defenseman Michaella Gonzalez (Corona, CA / Anaheim Lady Ducks) (2:53 of 3rd period, unassisted) gave the Trailblazers their first lead of the season, recording an unassisted goal for her first of the season and her career.
- The lead was short-lived because Salem State would rally, adding two goals to wrap up a 3-2 win. The first goal was credited to Reese Thunell (5:07, Alexa Robertson), and Talia Martucci (SH, 10:30, Isabelle Besser & Aislinn Bennett) tallied the second.
