Women’s Hockey Fall to Worcester State
MCLA dropped a MASCAC game to Worcester State this evening.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Ice Hockey team wrapped up their home-and-home series with MASCAC foe Worcester State University this evening, welcoming the Lancers to the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink. Milena Monell scored for the Trailblazers, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 72-15 edge in shots for the Lancers who left with a 5-1 win.
THE BASICS
- Date: Saturday, January 24, 2026
- Score: Worcester 5, MCLA 1
- Records: Worcester State University 9-8-0 (MASCAC 6-1-0) | MCLA Trailblazers 1-11-1 (MASCAC 0-7-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MCLA minimized a 23-0 advantage in shots in the first period for the Lancers, holding them to a single goal by Fiona Hatton (6:28 of 1st period, unassisted).
- The second frame saw the Trailblazers get their first shot on net, but it also saw them put what would end up being their only goal of the game on the scoreboard, taking advantage of a power play. The sequence began with junior forward Belle Wurmser (Brick, NJ / Princeton Tiger Lillies) bringing the puck into the offensive end and firing a shot from along the right boards. The shot would rebound out to junior forward Katie Pica (Woburn, MA / Woburn High School) who found junior forward Milena Monell (Tampa, FL / Florida Alliance) (PP, 2:21 of 2nd period, assisted by Wurmser & Pica) near the right faceoff dot. Monell skated towards the corner and flipped a sharp angle shot on net that found its way into the net. The goal was the first of the year for Monell while the helpers were the same for Wurmser and Pica.
- Worcester would respond with two goals in a bit over six minutes. Both goals were credited to Cailey Ryan (5:04, Fehl) and (8:38, Villandry) while the assists went to Olivia Fehl and AJ Villandry.
- The final frame would see the Lancers add two more goals. The first was by Emily Johns (2:14 of 3rd period, Wagner) assisted by Lindsay Wagner. The second went to Emily Curran (11:47, Gaspar) with the assist going to Lea Gaspar.
- Worcester's Maverick Margraf stopped 14 of 15 shots and advanced to 3-2-0 for the season.
