MCLA wins 7th Straight, clinches MASCAC berth in 2-1 win at Fitchburg
Led by senior Captain Jade Prickett's goal and an assist, the MCLA women's soccer team secured a berth in the MASCAC postseason tournament with their seventh straight victory, 2-1 at Fitchburg.
Fitchburg, MA- Senior Captain Jade Prickett (Southampton, MA) recorded a goal and an assist while MASCAC leading scorer Jess Tietgens (Stamford, VT) tallied the game winner in the 87th minute in leading the MCLA Women's Soccer team to their seventh straight victory 2-1 at Fitchburg State. With the win, the Trailblazers move to 12-3 on the season. They also secured a postseason MASCAC tournament bid with the win, moving to 5-1 on the season in the league.
MCLA would come out of the gates strong as Prickett would notch her first tally of the season just 2:51 into the contest. She headed home a cross from Lauren Ford and beat Fitchburg keeper Emily Swan for a 1-0 advantage. The Falcons would answer just five minutes later when Lindsay Taylor would even the score. The score would remain tied into halftime.
Both teams would trade opportunities, however the score would stay 1-1 into the 87th minute. Tietgens would net her 20th goal of the season taking a pass from Prickett and beating Swan for the game winner.
MCLA had a slight advantage in shots while Fitchburg had the narrow edge in corners. Sophomore keeper Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) would record the victory stopping four shots.
The Trailblazers clinched their first ever berth into the MASCAC playoffs with the victory. MCLA will have a chance to claim the regular season championship with a win at home next Saturday against conference rival Westfield State.
