Tietgens powers MCLA past Salem in key MASCAC matchup 4-0
Led by MASCAC leading scorer Jess Tietgens' two goals, MCLA defeated conference rival Salem State 4-0 this afternoon in Salem. With the win, the Trailblazers improve to 2-1 in the MASCAC, 7-3 overall.
(Salem, MA) - Junior Jess Tietgens (Stamford, VT) broke a scoreless tie with less then one minute remaining in the first period to lift the MCLA Trailblazers past the Salem State Lady Vikings, 4-0.
Playing in a driving rain, both teams were limited in scoring chances, until Tietgens found the back of the net with her team-leading 12th goal of the season. MCLA (7-3, 2-1) then opened the game up in the second period scoring three more times to put the game out of reach.
Lindsay Barbolla (Greenwich, NY) scored on an assist from Tietgens six minutes into the second half to put the Trailblazers up 2-0. Tietgens added her second goal of the game at the 62:00 mark, and Brianna Dandurant (Amesbury, Mass.) tallied her third score of the season to make the final margin, 4-0.
Goal Keeper Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) made six saves to earn the win. Starter Lindsey Burke, (Harvard, Mass.), who allowed four goals on 12 shots, suffered the loss for Salem State (6-4, 2-1).
