Tietgens named MASCAC player of the Year, headlines all conference team
MCLA senior forward Jess Tietgens has been named the MASCAC player of the year following a league wide vote. The Trailblazers were well represented as they placed five players on the respective teams. Head Coach Deb Raber was also named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive Season.
Buzzards Bay, MA- MCLA senior forward Jess Tietgens has been named as the 2010 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year and heads the league's all-conference squad in a vote taken of the conference's eight coaches.
MCLA Head Coach Deb Raber was selected by her peers for a second straight season as the MASCAC Turfer Coach of the Year after guiding the Trailblazers to the conference regular season crown.
Tietgens was joined on the 2010 MASCAC first-team all-conference squad by MCLA's Kaitlyn Dano and Jen Wehner. The Trailblazers Danielle Parenteau and Samantha Miller were named to the second-team all-conference squad.
A native of Stamford, Vt., Tietgens netted 15 goals and five assists for 35 points during regular season play and guided the Trailblazers to a 10-2-5 overall mark, including a 4-0-3 league slate en route to the MASCAC regular season title. She currently leads the conference in four statistical categories. The honor marks the third time in four seasons that she has been a first team selection. As a sophomore she was a second team choice. Tietgens is the all time leading scorer at MCLA.
Wehner is a repeat selection to the first team. She has been a stalwart in net all season long notching six shutouts while combining on three more. Wehner leads all conference goaltenders in four categories.
The honor is the first for Dano. She has been a rock on the backline for MCLA this season. Dano has been instrumental in the defense giving up the fewest goals in the conference.
Parenteau is a repeat second team performer. She is currently tied for the league lead in assists with seven, while collecting three goals this season.
Miller has controlled the midfield for the majority of the season. She has tallied five assists, good for fourth in the league while providing solid leadership throughout.
