Women’s Soccer Draw with SUNY Poly
DeMaio scored twice in MCLA’s draw with SUNY Poly in non-conference play this evening.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The MCLA Women's Soccer team welcomed the SUNY Poly Wildcats to Shewcraft Field this evening for a non-conference clash. Kylie DeMaio scored twice before the visitors rallied back to even the game shortly before the break. Both teams then settled in for a defensive struggle that would end in a draw.
THE BASICS:
- Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2025
- Score: SUNY Poly 2, MCLA 2
- Records: SUNY Polytechnical Institute 1-9-2 (Empire 8 0-5-0) | MCLA Trailblazers 3-6-2 (MASCAC 1-2-1)
- Series History: MCLA leads the all-time series 4-3-1. SUNY Poly took the last meeting of the teams on September 7, 2024, in Utica by a score of 2-0. MCLA was victorious in the first ever meeting of the teams by a score of 4-0 on September 24, 2013, in Utica.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MCLA opened the scoring in the just short of the 12th minute mark when Kylie DeMaio (Roxbury, NY) (12', assisted by Kareh) took a feed from Tia Kareh (Adams, MA) and split a pair of defenders, drew the Wildcats' keeper from her line and deposited the ball in the lower right corner of the goal. The assist was the first of the season for Kareh.
- DeMaio (26', Duggan) doubled the Trailblazers lead about 13 minutes later off a give and go play with Gwendolyn Duggan (Palmer, MA). Duggan brought the ball from the right side of the field to the left, passed it off to DeMaio near the edge of the 18-yard box. DeMaio probed the defense before passing back to Duggan, and then streaked towards the net to take a touch pass from Duggan with a one-on-one matchup with the keeper. For the second time in the game, DeMaio put the ball into the right side of the goal. With the two-goal game, it was DeMaio's second multi-goal game of the year (matching her two goal effort against Framingham State on September 6th), and brought her season total to five goals. The assist was Duggan's MASCAC leading ninth helper and moved her into the top 10 in all of Division III.
- SUNY Poly then rallied for two goals to level the score before half time. Kara Mertz (32', Madison Altamura) and Abigail Hughes (40', Brooke Bush & Aubree Smykla) were credited with the goals.
- The Trailblazers' keeper duo of Destiny Alexandra Rivas (Leicester, MA) and Mallory Amirian (Haverhill, MA) each recorded two saves while Rivas' record moved to 3-5-1.
- For the Wildcats, Samantha Barrett stopped ten of 12 shots and saw their record move to 0-4-1.
