Salem State Snaps Women’s Soccer’s Undefeated Streak on Senior Night

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The MCLA Women's Soccer team welcomed Salem State University to Shewcraft Field this evening for a MASCAC clash of teams fighting for their playoff hopes. A scoreless first half gave way to a pair of Viking goals in the second half as Salem State snapped MCLA's undefeated streak at seven games.

- Series History: Salem State leads the all-time series between the teams 31-6-3. The Vikings won the most recent meeting of the teams last season, 2-0 on October 19, 2024, in Salem. MCLA won the first-ever meeting of the teams, 2-1 on October 11, 1986, in North Adams.
SENIOR NIGHT
Before the first game, the Trailblazers recognized the Women's Soccer program's graduating class as part of their senior night celebration. Lauren Kimball (Crown Point, NY), Allie Bayer (Boring, OR), Jaydence Meribela (Volcano, HI), Madeline Propfe (Winchester Center, CT), Cidnee Frymire (Tonawanda, NY), and Kaylee Strayer (Lancaster, OH) were honored by coaches, teammates, family members, and fans for their time with the soccer program. Although their time with the program may end, they will forever be a part of the MCLA family.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half, with both teams getting off four shots. MCLA put two on net while the Vikings put four on goal.
- Salem State broke the tie just under four minutes into the second half when Samarah Paiva (49', unassisted) found the lower right corner of the goal. Krysta Zamejtis (65', unassisted) added an insurance goal, converting on a penalty kick.
- The Vikings' Ava Guyer maintained a clean sheet, stopping both shots she faced on net and improved her record to 8-6-2. Destiny Alexandra Rivas (Leicester, MA) stopped all three shots she faced in the first half, while Mallory Amirian (Haverhill, MA) stopped two shots but still fell to 0-2-3 on the year.
- The Trailblazer shots on net were credited to Lauren Campbell (Bennington, VT) and Kaylee Strayer (Lancaster, OH).

UP NEXT:
On Wednesday, MCLA will be back in action when they play host to SUNY Cobleskill for a non-conference matchup with the Fighting Tigers at Shewcraft Field. The teams will take the pitch for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
