MCLA wins with nail biter over Becker in Women's Tennis
Danielle Wiencek earned a pair of points in the Trailblazers' 5-4 road win over Becker in Women's Tennis
Leicester, MA- Led by a pair points from Danielle Wiencek, along with a hard fought three set win from Ama Adwetewa-Badu, the MCLA Women's Tennis team nipped Becker College 5-4 this afternoon. The win evens the Trailblazers record at 1-1 while Becker falls to 0-2 overall.
MCLA got off to a good start in doubles as they took two of the three matches to grab an early lead. Kelley Bryant and Stephanie Giardina took the top doubles match 8-5, while Wiencek teamed with Rebecca Waterhouse to earn a key point 9-7.
With the Trailblazers holding a slim edge after doubles, Becker rallied by taking the first two singles matches to pull ahead. Wiencek would stem the tide though, using a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win in the third slot to even the match at 3-3. Becker took the fourth singles match to come within a point of victory, but the Trailblazers had other ideas.
Adwetewa-Badu was clutch in earning a three set win in tiebreaker fashion. She defeated Lily Woodward-Logan 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 to knot the score. Kylie Dumas won the final match of the day in the sixth slot 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the win for the Trailblazers.
The Trailblazers will look for two in a row when they travel to Bay Path on Thursday afternoon.
